Provide Student Information
The first step is to understand the student’s needs and goals for 1-on-1 instruction. Give us a call at 404-919-7227 so one of our instructors can ask a few questions about your student’s academics and availability and provide guidance on instructional logistics, scheduling, content alignment, etc.
Receive a Proposed Schedule
Once have the student’s availability and an understanding of their academics, we will send you a proposed 1-on-1 tutoring schedule for review. The proposed 1-on-1 tutoring schedule outlines the dates and times that the student would meet with the instructor(s) and the content that will be covered.
Confirm and Get Started
Once we receive confirmation of the proposed dates and times, we will add you to the official tutoring calendar and send you the logistical details for instruction (what to do when you arrive, payment details, materials, etc.). You can get started with 1-on-1 tutoring within a few days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does scheduling work?
When you’re ready to move forward, we’ll work with you to create a custom 1-on-1 tutoring schedule for your student that takes into consideration their availability.
We can proactively avoid scheduling students on days/times where we know conflicts exist (soccer matches, extracurriculars, etc.). After we know the students availability, we will send you a proposed schedule of instruction for review and confirmation.
We like to assign the same instructor to work with the student for a given subject. Ideally, we like to have students work with their instructor once per week. Additional weekly sessions are recommended if the student is facing significant struggles (i.e., failing the class) or if the testing timeline is extremely tight.
For SAT/ACT preparation, the ideal schedule is one or two hours once per week on the same day/time each week with the same instructor from start to finish. We try to get as close to this as possible.
The same number of hours are significantly more impactful when spread out over a longer horizon. If the student’s schedule doesn’t permit such a configuration, we can sometimes assign two instructors (one for Math/Science and one for Reading/Writing).
We will do the best we can to create the most consistent schedule possible for the student because it’s one of the most important factors in score improvement.
Session Cancellation/Modification
Our session modification/cancellation policy is summarized as follows:
- If you choose to cancel or modify an appointment for individual tutoring, private tutoring, or one-on-one (1-on-1) tutoring, forty-eight (48) or more hours before the scheduled appointment, we will credit all of the fees you have paid for that session or for the adjusted timing(s) toward a future session.
- If you choose to modify or cancel your appointment less than forty-eight (48) hours before the scheduled appointment, you will forfeit that session or the adjusted
timing(s).

We understand that studdents can get sick with very little notice, so we make exceptions in cases of medical emergencies. If the student is sick, please submit one of the following documents to reschedule the session:
- A clinician’s note (doctor’s note, nurse’s note, clinic visit summary, etc.). Please redact any health-related information for privacy.
- A school administrator’s note stating that the student missed school due to an illness.
Once we receive the documentation, we will provide you with options for scheduling a make-up session.

Our session modification/cancellation policy can be found on our Terms & Conditions page.
What if I don't like my instructor?
It’s unlikely that this will be the case. We take great care in thoughtfully matching each student with the instructor who best fits their academic needs, learning style, and personality. This intentional matching process is one of the reasons our students build strong, productive relationships with their tutors.
In fact, in nearly 20 years of providing tutoring services, we’ve only needed to change instructors a handful of times. Nevertheless, if you ever feel that you aren’t clicking with your instructor, please reach out to us as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to find a better match.
Please keep in mind that other instructors may have different availabilities, so some flexibility may be required on your end.
What happens if I don't use all of my package hours?
Purchased tutoring hours never expire!
Unused hours may be allocated at any point in the future. For example, if you purchase a 25-hour package to prepare for the SAT or ACT and only use 23 hours, the remaining hours can be used for a future test administration or applied to any other academic subject for which we offer instruction.
Package hours are also transferable to a sibling, making them flexible for families with multiple students.
What if I am not ready to commit to a package?
We totally get it! This is an investment in your student’s education, and we want you to feel confident in your decision.
If you’re not ready to commit to a package, we recommend starting with session-by-session instruction at our standard hourly rate. Note that a $100 registration fee applies to all session-by-session enrollments.
If you choose to upgrade to a package within 14 days of your first completed session, the $100 registration fee will be applied toward your package purchase. This allows students the opportunity to experience a few 1-on-1 sessions to ensure that their instructor is a great fit for them,
This is a big investment, so we want you to feel comfortable every step of the way!
Are there any guarantees?
In good faith, we do not offer guarantees of score increases or academic improvement.
While our instructors are highly experienced and our methods are proven, there are many factors outside of our control that can impact a student’s performance. This is especially true with standardized tests like the SAT or ACT.
A student may prepare diligently, attend sessions consistently, and complete all of their assignments, but factors such as illness, stress, school workload, or personal circumstances can still affect outcomes.
What we do guarantee is professionalism, preparation, and transparency.
After every session, you will receive a detailed session report outlining:
- What was covered during the lesson
- Areas of strength and areas needing improvement
- Whether the student was engaged and focused
- Homework assigned and whether previous assignments were completed
- Specific skills or concepts the student struggled with or mastered
These reports provide transparency into the student’s progress and allow parents to stay informed and involved.
How do I know my student is getting what they need?
More than anything, we want parents to be active participants in their students’ academic, so we prioritize communication and transparency.
We want you to always know exactly how your student is progressing. After each session is completed, instructors complete a detailed session report outlining:
- What material was covered
- Skills practiced and concepts learned
- Areas of strength and areas of improvement
- Whether homework from the previous session was completed
- New homework that was assigned
- The student’s level of engagement and focus
- etc.
Session reports are sent to both parents and students to ensure everyone stays informed and accountable. In fact, if you wish, you are welcome to listen in on the session from the lobby.
Additionally, you’re welcome to reach out with questions. You can email your student’s instructor at any time, and if you’d prefer a direct conversation, you’re welcome to speak with the instructor at drop-off to share feedback, ask questions, or discuss any concerns.
How will the instructor know what my student needs?
We begin gathering information before the student ever attends their first session.
Before assigning an instructor to work with the student, we speak with parents to understand the student’s academic goals, areas of difficulty, and any relevant learning considerations. If a student has specific learning challenges (ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc.), we can take that into consideration when assigning an instructor.
We have instructors who are particularly skilled at supporting certain learning profiles, and we match students thoughtfully. If you’re aware of specific topics your student is struggling with (e.g. Taylor series expansions in calculus), we share that information with the instructor in advance so they can prepare targeted materials for the student.
As sessions progress, instructors also assess for foundational gaps. If a student is struggling with current material due to missed or misunderstood concepts from previous years, we address those gaps first to ensure lasting understanding and confidence.
For standardized tests (SAT, ACT, PSAT), instruction is even more data-driven. If you provide a prior score report from an official exam or a practice test, instructors use it to identify strengths and weaknesses. This allows instructors to prioritize the areas that need the most improvement rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
The more information we have about the student’s academics and circumstances, the more efficient and effective instruction can be. Our process is intentional, personalized, and designed to ensure that students receive exactly what they need.
Does instructional time include practice time?
Our goal is to use instructional sessions as efficiently and strategically as possible.
In general, we encourage students to complete the majority of their practice independently. This allows session time to be focused on direct instruction, strategy refinement, error analysis, and addressing specific challenges the student encountered while practicing.
Instructors often assign:
- Targeted practice sets
- Reinforcement exercises
- Full-length practice tests* (for standardized test prep)
Students are encouraged to complete these before their next session so the instructor can review mistakes, correct misunderstandings, and strengthen application of strategies.
There are times when instructors will have students complete a short set of questions during the session. This allows for immediate feedback and real-time correction of errors.
This usually involves a few minutes of guided practice followed by in-depth review; it’s not extended periods of silent work during paid instructional time.
For standardized test preparation, students may take as many practice tests as they’d like with us at no additional cost. If a student prefers to complete a practice test at our center rather than at home, we’re happy to coordinate a time.
The more consistently a student completes assigned practice independently, the more focused and productive instructional sessions can be.
* Note that we only use official practice tests released by The College Board and The ACT.
